Current, how much is too much...

I have a planted 75 with an Oscar, Freddy, and 2 convicts and am planning on getting a wave maker for circulation, how much is too much?? One option is 1500gph is this too much? I had a 350gph and felt it hardly circulated the water... What's your opinion??
