Hey guys! So recently I’ve been thinking about getting a bigger tank, (180), and I’m not sure if I want to move my SA Cichlids or my African Cichlids into the bigger tank. I currently have 2 firemouths, 1 convict, 1 belly crawler pike, 1 GT, 1 jurapari geo, 1 threadfin acara, 1 gold severum, and 1 pleco. Currently they’re in a 125, how overstocked is the tank? Thanks for any advice!!

Well the American cichlids you have come from different regions and prefer different water types. Most are adaptable, but your SA cichlids like your jurupari and pike, would definitely benefit from softer low pH water. Your CA cichlids like the convict, do better with harder water.

I do think your 125 will be overstocked a bit when all fish are mature, and the fish have different levels of aggression. I would move either all the SA fish or all the CA fish to the 180, and keep the groups separate, perhaps adding something to cater to their preferred water hardness, like a bit of limestone/crushed coral for the CA's, or driftwood/peatmoss for the SA's
