Im gonna build a 36" x 5.5" wide x 9.25" tall custom reef tank. Im making it out of perfecto glass lids I ordered. It'll be about 8 gallons if I calculated right. It's gonna look like a normal rimless tank just long and thin but the ends are gonna have glass thats 3 inches above the rest of the tank so a light can rest on it. I'll have pics soon since I have the lids and I just have to cut the glass.

Sounds really nice-
You gonna setup as a mini reef? or more like a frag type tank?
exscuse my ignorance.

a nano reef yes. I might use it as a frag growout tank but id still like to have it as more of a nano reef.

As far as the pic... i had to use white sheets of cardboard paper or else you couldnt see the glass. The other end i broke when I went to cut it... :irked: :irked: :irked: :irked: :irked: which means I have to order another glass lid... which means I have to spend more money... which means my parents are gonna be pissed since I've been spending a ton on my reefs lately... well anyway, heres the pic:

Thats going to look really nice when all said and done-
I look forward to seeing how this turns out and looks when completed...

I have been thinking about something similar-So this just might inspire me to get off the lazy and get going on it-If I like how this turns out first of course-

Thanks for the info.....

Since I have no experience drilling holes in glass (im focusing on not having anything above the glass back) im going to take it to a local glass place and have them do it... Im also gonna have them re-cut the sides of the thing so that the cuts are perfectly straight and even. So its lookin good so far. I have a tom rapids canister filter for it and a maxi jet 400 powerhead. I gotta get the sand and live rock for it but that will come later... along with livestock. any ideas on livestock? what should go in it? just inverts? or some fish too? probably just a clown if any fish. Im done with damsels... they are too annoying for me (I have absolutely no luck at all with them)

LoL damsels are by far the most irritating fish out there. Extremely territorial even amongst themselves. With a tank that small a cow fish would be fun, but if you have too much water flow nix that idea. and you should have probably 3-6 blue leg crabs, couple snails, oh, and if, only if, you have room get a skunk cleaner shrimp, they are a blast to watch. As i typed another option that came to mind is a mandarin goby. they stay under 4" full grown, and are very colorful. GL cant wait to see it together, neat idea.

Puffer, for what reason did you buy a glass lid just to cut it up? Especially when you are taking it to a Glass shop for drilling? If you makeup a list of plate dimensions and thickness, your local glass shop will cut all the pieces & smooth the edges for a great price.

I'd suggest some watchmen gobies or antenna Gobies along with some Blue/Scarlet Leg Hermits and some Sexy Shrimp.

ya know... i thought of that too... I never really noticed the glass shop until i had bought the lids and broken one of them and decided I should drill it for a more streamline look. Then I looked around for a glass shop and was like :duh: wow i could have had them cut the entire thing... well anyway... im gonna have them finish up the cutting and drilling so its all nice and smooth... then Im gonna silicone it together
