Hi guys just wanted to share this I just built a stand fit perfect for my 75 gallon aquarium and you can make one custom for any size tank. I copied the base structure from someone who was building for a 260 gallon and as you will see in the photo it is solid! It does not budge one bit even if you try to break it will NOT :)
Heres a link to the video who I copied the idea just made it smaller than him

Hey thanks! I built this today using onlit 2x6 boards and 4x4 posts all pressure treated wood will lat forever the 5 screw diamond pattern makes this thing solid like one piece you manage to lift and throw it it will roll and stay together wont even budge

Edit: this is my first time building anything from wood and screws, real easy anyone can do it that can use a screw gun and hold the wood together I used those grip things from harbor freight he was talking about in that youtube video I watched highly recommend for anyone looking to build your own stand

You should be very proud of yourself. The stand looks great.

Thank you very much for the compliment! Tomorrow I will be setting up the tank and filling up with water to begin the cycling. That is the true reward! Lol

I don't want to come across as a party pooper because for a first attempt that is a good solid build.....for a 75g. But in future, especially for bigger tanks, I can tell you there is a major design flaw there.

When building stands for very heavy aquariums one of the main rules of construction is never to design it so that your screws are load bearing. You are missing 8 vertical pieces of lumber from that stand.

As it is, the amount of screws you seem to have in there, and the fact it's only for a 75g, will mean you'll be fine, even long term i'd say.

But i've no doubt in time you'll expand in the hobby, get a much bigger and heavier tank, and build another stand for your new tank. DO NOT use that design on a monster tank. Like I mentioned, you are missing 8 vertical corner struts to bear the weight of the top section.

I agree with this. But there is an easy modification to this design - just add more 2x6 (or whatever fits) to the outside of the corners. It will also look better.

Thank you guys for your input and thanks esoxlucius for pointing this out! I knew about those extra boards you mention. In the youtube video he showed to add them just as you said. I got to the end of building this and all the struts I had precut turned out to be too short. I figured it would be strong enough just like you said so didnt bother going out to buy more wood. Good advice thank you again

To avoid so many cuts and boards I've been using no less than 4" dimensional lumber and 6.5" lag bolts to build my latest stands. They end up exceptionally sturdy. Heres the one i just built out of 6x4 and 4x4 for a 5'x2' tank.
