Hey MFK's Ive been looking at larger aquariums and stingray importers/breeders for a few months now and i decided to go with a 96"x36"x18" (270 gallon) tank. I plan on stocking it with one male and one female motoro to start. Im new to stingrays and large tanks and ill be needing some DIY filtration, probably a syphon running to a sump and back into aquarium via pond pump. I know rays are voracious feeders and they need excellent filtration. any other tips/pointers? things i should know. My largest tank is currently a 55 and i have no real ray experience. i have only done research and read up on them. The build should be done in about 4 weeks, then transportation, helicopter maby? and getting it into my basement.... lol should be fun.

You must have ALOT of money if you can get your tank in by helicopter!

Lol no i was joking too much $$$ for me but ill need a significantly proportioned vehicle to transport this thing. Maby a big truck with lots of padding underneath the tank. i dont want to hit a bump and have it crack.

If its a good tank, it wont brake no matter how crappy you drive.. ;)

for real? i mean the length and weight on the bottom sheet of glass, bouncing around? im thinking about putting skids under the tank then securing it in place somehow.

Its going to be heavy as hell, so I doubt that It can bounce at all.. Just some sheets under it and you will be fine.. And make sure it cant slide.. One of my friends (and I) crashed with a 150 gallon.. Nothing happent to the tank.. You have to remember that these things are made to hold over a ton (2000 pounds) of water.. Big tanks like yours are made to be tuff.. ;)

the bigger the sump the better.... that tank should give 5 years with the motoros before they out grow it..

is 36" the width? if so, it will last for a long time.

u should look into a 4 by 8 tank.

big sump with load's of bio media, and as vamptrev said is there no way you could you could make it 4 feet wide? otherwise you are going to have to get rid of them when they hit 30"+. Hope you have lot's of friend's to help you lift the thing.

Kev

i had to cut the height down from 2' to 18" so i could have 3' width. 8'x3'x18" LXWXH is what im going with because any larger and the glass is required to be 2x as thick and thats 2X as much $$$$ that i dont have. im thinking when they outgrow this already monstrous tank ill move them to an indoor pond/ kiddie pool or something along those lines. its going to have eurobracing as is.
