So I've been thinking it may be fun to try and make my own tanks. However I have no experience in doing this and was wondering what y'all can tell me about a few of the ins and outs.

Hey! If you plan on building a lot of tanks you should invest in some tools. If you are only going to build 1-3 you can get by with general house tools. If you are going to build large tanks that will require the use of multiple tubes of sealant you should invest in an electric caulk gun. Your hands will thank you. If you plan to drill your tanks remember that you can not use tempered glass for the panels you wish to put holes in. Invest in the suction cup handles for transporting glass. Will make life much less stressful while you move around panels to store or use them. Good luck!

Look up King of DIY on youtube he teaches how to make small tanks to large tanks. Small tanks are relatively easy just silicone and patience. Large plywood tanks take a little bit of know how when cutting wood ,measuring and proper plumbing but can be learned in one day on youtube lol

Search on this forum there is a recent thread of a guy making a nice plywood tank!

I did build a 30 gallon acrylic tank that was four feet long by a foot deep by a foot wide. It held water. It was very fun to build and I do have plans of building a ten foot long by foot deep by foot wide tank in the future.

What killed it was when I tried to ship it to California and it got crushed during shipping but the good news was it protected the shipment of Ebola jars under it from getting crushed in the mail.
