I have a 55 gal tank with 1 ruby crown, 1 Geophagus surinamensis, 1 electric blue jack dempsey, 1 Sajica, and 1 cutteri(female). About 6 months ago I had another cutteri and they started to breed. I had three batches of fry so I decided it was time for the male to go. He hasnt been in my tank for atleast 5 months. While I was cleaning out the tank the other day I discovered new fry from my cutteri female. I dont understand because I got rid of the male. The only thing I can figure is that its a hybrid. I dont know which fish she bred with. Im guessing the sajica since they are both blue eyed cichlids but Im not sure. Has this happened to anyone else. The fry is in a nursery tank now. I dont know what to do with them though. I dont think pet shops want crossbred fish?

But what sould I do with them? Im kind of excited because I think it will be a really pretty fish but I dont need 100 of them lol

I had blue eye cichlid (spirulus) breed with a convict, and the resulting fish was a really beefy looking blue eye cichlid with a nuchal hump. didnt inherit many convict traits at all.
(very very old pic)

Keep as many as you need and feed the rest to your other fish or cull them (drop them in ice cold water, clove oil, etc). You can sell them to other hobbyists if you make sure they KNOW beforehand it's a hybrid. I wouldn't give them to a LFS simply because you don't know where they will end.
