i use one of those knife like things to score the sheet a few times, then put it on a table or something flat and bend it at the place where you scored and it breaks right off

What kind of blade? I would guess one with small teeth, like for plywood? I'm asking becasue I'm wanting to build an acrylic tank in the next few months.

I used to use a rotozip. It worked well.

your not going to cut 1/2 inch acrylic by scoring it
also a rotozip tends to melt to much on the thick stuff but is fine for 1/8 inch acrylic
the only way to get a nice clean straight cut is with a table saw

I cut it on my radial arm saw, using the same 10" 60tooth carbide blade I crosscut hardwood with

u need to use a router if u plan on getting a good seem on the edges
