I want to install a sump in the cabinet under my 55 gallon tank. The area under the tank in the cabinet is not very large. Has anyone ever removed the top bracing on a store bought tank and cut the height down? I need to take about 2" off a tank for it to fit into the stand.

You'd have to completely disassemble the tank, cut each piece individually, hope you dont break any, reassemble, reseal, new frame... You're better off building a new stand that the sump fits in or finding a tank that is suitable for your application.

Is it too tall to fit in the stand or too tall for the door? I used to have a sump under my 75 that only fit through the top of the stand. Kind of a pita to drain the tank, take it off the stand, drop in the sump, etc, but once its in, its in. One time thing.

I agree. That's way easier than trying to cut glass. Probably a lot cheaper too.
