so i picked up a piece of half inch glass today and its too long i need to cut it any suggestions?

Because it is tempered, you can forget cutting that piece. As I said in you other thread, just a chip to the edge will see that piece explode into a million pieces. Glass has to be cut to size first and then tempered. It can not be done the other way around unfortunately.

Like stated above.... if it is tempered, it cannot be cut. If not, I would take it to a glass shop as 1/2" is a bit harder. They would only charge a couple of buck to cut it.

i did some research and called a local glazier.....soak a road in gasoling tie it around where you want it cut. light the rope on fire let it burn this will detemper the area needed to be cut have to buddys apply pressure on side coming off stand at the edge and smack it with a rubber mallet it worked great

so you did it?

Found this online about annealing glass.

This temperature to anneal any glass is a range, and is located at approximately the center of this range. It is not important to reach an exact temperature. Keeping the glass temperature steady for an amount of time before cooling slowly to room temperature is important.
The temperature recommended to achieve this process for most glass, is around 940º F. If you are using borosilicate glass, use around 1050º F.

So all you need to do is heat the glass up to 940-1050 degree's and hold it there for a certain amount of time depending on the thickness. And then cool it in a controlled enviroment very slowly or you risk shattering the pane becuase of pressure load.

Please take a vid.

Are you saying you have already done this? Otherwise I will believe it when I see it. I couldn't see this producing enough heat to detemper the glass and if it did, you have now made this piece substantially weaker IMO. This would happen to tempered cookware in our ovens going by this theory and it doesn't so as already stated, a video of the process would be great to see, including the actual score and cut after.;) I would be worried about the difference in the stress load of the glass after the process. You would have one are where the glass would be detempered while the rest of it would be tempered. Wouldn't this cause an uneven stress load in the glass?

Subscribing...only because I don't have enough drama in my life right now.
