I'm having a bear of a time trying to cut glass from an old 55 I took apart, anybody have any idea what's going on, I'm fairly sure it's not tempered, I'm scoring once, clean, with a brand new glass cutter, but this sucker won't break. I'm holding off for now to try and get some advice, better than busting it being impatient. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

my guess is that it won't break because there is no fulcrum. The tank looks to be 100% fully intact , therefore the pressure is not being exerted on the correct spot to break where you scored it. When you cut glass a single pane is placed in a glass-vice and scored on both sides, then snapped by applying pressure from the far end. The glass still has way too much strength in it's current form, so you will likely have to remove the entire panel, and go from there.

All I can say is use some cutting oil make a nice score line then break it off as you normally would. No reason why it's not working now. Unless your cutting 1/2" or something and are not applying enough pressure to cause a break

Any advice would be appreciated.

You say its not tempered, but are you 100% sure?
Are you trying to cut a very small piece off of thick glass?
What is the thickness of the glass?
What is the size of the piece you are trying to cut off?

If you have made a good score place the glass on a solid surface with the score line on the edge. Hold the piece down on the surface and apply even force on the side hanging off, it should snap on the line.

I was practicing cutting glass on an old 50G i dismantled, and agree, due to thickness almost need to score both sides, and to make sure each score is deep enough...

Hey guys, the glass is about a quarter inch thick. Can't say I'm 100 percent sure it's not tempered. All I can vouch for is that I'm heavy and a tradesman so I can lay on a cut pretty hard. All things considered, I feel like it should be enough to break it. I'm not experienced with glass cutting though, just primed up with YouTube videos, and familiar with my abilities, yet the glass resists. I held up the glass to a LCD TV and didn't get lines so I assume it's cuttable. Can't say that doesn't mean I'm ignorant to what kind of glass it is, just heard that if it was tempered it would distort the LCD output. Like I said, I'm a wash with internet bullshat so an experienced glass cutter with knowledge of cutting aquarium glass could help me greatly.

I dismanteled old glass lids, and just put em across the top. Placed em front to back length wise, and set the new ones on top. Yeah theres a gap, and its kinda ghetto, but it works.

Then maybe it could be a matter of pushing too hard with the glass cutter??? Coz there seems to be a sweet spot when it comes to cutting glass...
