My local lfs got a huge very kokky female cyangutattus in some time ago, she immediately layed eggs. Some weeks later he managed to get a nice carpintis male, of course the two spawned. I made a deal to raise a large group of the fry to a saleable size in exchange for keeping a pair.
That pair is just starting to really color up now, will take pics in the next week or so when they're something more to see. I'm fairly certain the male is fertile, being that cyangutattus and carpintis are so closely related. Most, if not all of the Herichthys complex should be interfertile, the genetic divergence just isn't that great. Meaning that a cyan X carpintis male will most certainly be fertile. Working on a further surprise as mates for this male, but thats another thread.
The cyan X carpintis pair I kept take after their carpintis dad a lot, very greeny/blue pearls coming in, the only way they show the cyan blood is there seems to be way better coverage with the pearling. Also the pearls seem a little finer in some areas than a true carpintis, particularly on the stomach, overall really just awesome pearls. The male is approximately 1 1/2 inch, the female is 1 inch. Both parent's were very tall/full bodied and it shows in these fry, they almost seemed short body to me at first. Then I realized it's just because they're so darn tall & beefy in relation to their length naturally, they don't appear to be sb at all. Pics when they gain just a bit more size, I promise, lol!
