I acquired a number of these fish labelled as H.Cyanoguttatus a while back from my lfs. They were 2" in length at the time, but as they've grown on, i've developed doubts as to their purity.
The only info that i have from the shop owner, is that a regular customer brought a breeding pair into the shop to trade. He said he had imported them at great cost from the US. They then bred in the shop and the shop owner kept the fry but sold the pair. My fish were from this batch of fry.
I have kept Cyanno's before, many years ago, and they were nothing like these specimens. Im aware of regional differences in this species, and would like to ask if anyone can possitively I.D. them as Cyanno's.
Heres some shots using a flash.

At 3-4" they seem very stock and high bodied. The spots seem pretty large for Cyanno's i think??? Maybe cross between Cyano/Carpinte???
Here a pic without the flash.

And here i was lucky enough to get a shot of one of the fish in question next to a Carpinte for comparison.

Either way these are crackin little fish that i shal keep regardless of their purity.

They are really stocky and high-bodied. Slight worming on the cheek reminds me of carpintis escondido. I had one male out of my escondido batch that turned out similiar to your fish. He looked exactly like a cyna, but shape of the escondido. My guess, a hybrid.

There is so much variatin from different collection locations it's be hard to tell, color is right for cyno, Spots are a little big, but I've seen wild ones that looked identical to that. Just call them aquarium strain Texas and enjoy the fish.
