Picked up a group of 5 Cyatho Foai Kachese yesterday and within about 4 hours were digging pits and displaying :) Also got a trio of "Ophthalmotilapia ventralis mpimbwe Silver Streak" but the male is still being timid so I'll try and capture him once he livens up a bit!

This is right after I finished the tank, so the fish are smaller and the Foai aren't in there, but at least you can see the whole tank.

Both the ventralis and foai have now spawned, guess it's time to set up a smaller tank for some babies. Had no plans on raising any fish as this was meant to be just a show tank but hard to pass up raising a few of these :)

I love the setup and the choice of fish. I see you have a mix of tang and malawii, which i have going on. I went wiht the ventralis but due two user error lost 3/4. Does the foai male stay colored up or only when he is trying to breed? My poor single ventralis doesnt color up at all in my 125. I can't believe no one commented on your thread. They must not my popular on this website.

Thanks guys :) The larger Foai male stays colored up, not as vivid as when hes spawning but still very very nice. The Ventralis is a very very fun fish to watch - he's small with an attitude the size of a shark he never lets up, always chasing displaying just always something with him. I'll try to get an updated video with him going nuts as well.

How are the babies doing? I wonder what they look like small....

My initial thought of not gonna raise any babies stands, it didn't take long to figure out trying to catch a female out of a 500 gallon tank full of rock was going to be literally impossible without tearing the rock out each time! I wish I could but there's a good 3-400 lbs of rock in there and that's just way to much work for some fry :/ For all I know though some of these fry are surviving down in the rock. I now have the yellow labs, vics, strigatus, faoi, ventralis, peacocks and phenochilus sp. tanzania all spawning now so that has to be a lot of babies and some are bound to survive I hope!
