Hello,

This is a question regarding cyathopharynx furcifer tank size. I was under the impression that I couldn't keep any in a 55. I read this website: http://www.cichlidae.com/article.php?id=294 (scroll to the bottom and see where somebody mentions not having enough space) An after some further reading I'm not so sure. On that webpage Horus mentions knowing someone who has a breeding trio in a 40 gallon. Also on that webpage he states you could do them in a 55 and I've found at least 4 others who support this on various other websites. Could I do one make and two or three females in a 55 if it was almost completely void of rocks? I'd use a mirror to induce breeding...

Any supporters? Or is this a recipe for disaster? Or is there any in-between?

recipe for disaster imo my furcifers would kill each other in a tank that size I would strongly recommend not risking such a beautiful fish.

Furcifers/faoi are big fish males topping out at over 8", they don't fo well in small tanks and they prefer a 6 ft tank. Their territories when they start nest building are quite large and more than 1 male in a 55 will end in disaster, do those magnificint fish a favor and house them properly :)

Some of the ventralis would work in a 55 gallon with 1 male and however many females you wished to keep, they grow smaller though some are highly aggressive so only 1 male would work. Do some research on the various types to find oen that may work for you :) My ophthalmotilapia ventralis "mpimbwe silver streak" were absolutely stunning fish but my male at 4" had taken over the entire 500 gallon....small fish BIG personality!

I see you are in Pa.,where would you get yours from?
