I usally only do a fishy cycle, but i was thinking of cycling with out using a cocktail shrimp. i have a 55g with a emp400 and a aquatech brand from
wal-shart, what can i do to get this cycle going and done as soon as possible? i cycled my 55g with six giant danios they are still alive, would it be a good idea to throw them in my125 with the aquatech filter?

Use media from another filter. Instantly cycled.

Media from another filter and ammonia......no need to use fish or dead shrimps....ammonia is cleaner and you can build up a larger bacterial population very quickly.

sweet i was going to put the entire hob in my 125 with my new xp3, i dont want the bacteria to die off of the hob, so i should add fish with it?

so realy it would be like a 100% water change if i just put a old filter on? I was going to swipe one of the old ladys nylons and toss a hand full of gravel in it to. how would that work?

Yes, add fish immediately to the tank when adding a cycled filter. The gravel nylon thing would be ineffective, gravel doesn't harbor enough bacteria.

Another thing you can do is just take the filter media from the cycled filter & squeeze it into the new tank (treated water of course). You'll get the bacteria in it that way - and add the fish to maintain it.

use some danios, other media like ewurm said and some bio-spira and its a done deal..

Danios are able to survive anything! I just cycled a tank (past 2 weeks) and used them. I used roseus danios (sometimes called purple passion danios). They look great if you decide to keep them after the cycle. Otherwise, they're good food for monsters too. I've tried to jump start a tank using gravel before, and as ewurm said, there's not enough bb in the gravel to be effective. It might help slightly, but you need to add something else to jump start.

The tank I just did I used seachem stability and biozyme. cycled in 2 weeks.
