I just bought a bottle Cycle, by nutrifin, to help speed up the cycling process in my 125. What is your opinion on this stuff?
Also, I have one of those plastic ammonia alert things made by Seachem, do they really work?

i used it to cycle my 125 a long time ago and i didnt notice anything form it. It didnt hurt anything but didnt speed anytihng up. Id go buy biospira.

once you put it in the tank you need some source of ammonia so the bacteria doesnt die

There are some minnows and 2 crayfish in the tank. The ammonia alert thing says its at alert, and its been like that since I started cycling the tank 4 days ago.

wrong cycle doesn't work like. It isn't actually the bacteria that you have at the end of the cycling process. it just helps the bacteria take hold.. honestly bio-spira is the only product on the market that works like it says. it will actuall instantly cycle your tank if you add the fish immediatly. I tried cycle, stability but they didn't do a damn thing.. bio-spira worked. i never had any ammonia or nitrite and I have done this with 3 different tanks.

but you do need fish for the cycling process to start so thats not 100% wrong

IMO Cycle doesn't do anything. Bio media from a established tank is the best way I've found to cycle a tank. I think BioSpira is way over priced. I've used it, wasn't blown away impressed like some people have been. Tank cycling sucks! :grinyes:

Ive never seen bio spira for sale anywhere. I put some gravel (about 2lbs) from another cycled tank into my 125 several days ago, along w/ a piece of driftwood and a small plastic plant. The ammonia alert thing has been at alert the whole time. I really want to know how accurate are those things really are though.
