So I am an experienced freshwater keeper and I have a well established 10 gallon tank for over a year now. My Aqueon 30 gallon filter has been established and running on the 10 gallon for a while now while I was preparing to get my 20 gallon long tank. I was wondering, I have already set the 20 up and started cycling it with danios. I put in my hardy live plants from my established 10 gallon also. If I were to put all my rocks/driftwood and just attach my established 30 gallon filter onto my 20 would there be enough beneficial bacteria in place that I wouldnt really need to cycle? Could I transfer my fish over? The way I think about it is that the only thing different would be a larger tank and new sand substrate (Even though I could also transfer over the sand from the 10 gallon). Let me know what you think.

...I know patience is a virtue, but I'm very limited with that at times haha

Just use the established filter media or filter of your 10g. That should instantly cycle the 20g.

so if I transfer everything over, your sure my fish wont die? haha I just want to make sure, to me it seems like with my filter and decorations I should have enough established beneficial bacteria.

With all the media in the filter you should be able to add fish instantly.
Exactly my point.:iagree:

thats because 90% of the Beneficial bacteria resides in the filter right?
Bacteria reside in both decorations and filters. Not much on the water column which makes transferring water pointless.

Just treat the new tank like an old tank.;)

are you planning on using the same decorations in the bigger tank?

especially the gravel?
