Cycling a tank

Just want some calrity on the proper way to cycle a fish tank. I have never done this before and none of my fish have died.

use cheap feeder fish, or a fishless cycle. It takes 3-4 weeks for you tank to cycle. All you nitrate, amonia,etc. Will spike. Its the tolerence of the fish.
