cycling a tank?

ok so I have a small fish living in a 10 gal eventualy he'll become about 10-12 inches (he'll be in a 50 gal at that time) which I don't have yet:nilly:
if I got this new tank and took the filter from the established tank he's in now and put it into my new tank , would this skip the cycling process?
I know a 10 gallon filter isn't enough movent for the water so I am gunna have my new filter as well as the established one running for about a week..

you dont have to wait a week. just have the old 10g filter running with the new filter for a day or 2 and it would be ok. you still need something in there to provide food for the Beneficial Bacteria to eat.

yeah , I was kinda wondering If I could put my fish in with the filter at the same time.

Get a new filter for the 55, and put your old media in it. Transfer filter media and fish at the same time.

:)ok i'll do that, ty for the advice
