Cycling-New fish room

I'm in the process of setting up a new fish room. I wanted to get started cycling some sponge filters, while I get started on the construction. Can I cycle multiple filters at the same time in one tank? I would like to put 10-12 sponges in a 40g and do a fishless cycle with ammonia. Does that sound like it would work?

It should work. What's your bacteria source? Where the sponge filters ever in a tank with fish or are they all brand new?
