Cycling new tank

If I cycle my new tank as fresh water using media from an old filter then add salt making it brackish will the salt kill of the bacteria in the filter?

Yes there is a difference in the beneficial bacteria living in a freshwater tank and a marine tank. When switching from fresh to brackish, the best thing to do is to slowly, over a period of time, increase the salinity of the water. Adding too much salt at one time will kill off the bb.
