I have a 135 gallon tank with tap water in it and 2 aquclear 500's on it.
im using a rubbermaid to keep my fish in rite now wit a h.o.t. magnum filter that is meant for 55 gal tank, the rubbermaid has the fishy water.

if i put the magnum filter on the big tank will it help cycle the water?

(i would put one of the 500's on the rubbermaid temporarily. )

Even though it is called "cycling the tank", what you are actually doing is cycling the filter. If the filter is cycled, you're good to go.

What you're talking about is called seeding and it WILL reduce the cycling time but it will still need to be cycled once you have introduced the bio load. My recomendation would be to add the fish slowly over the next couple of weeks to reduce stress.

It should but the fish pale might go bad do you have any other filters in other tanks? Ring them out in the new tank make sure you use declorite or prime first it will kick start your filters fast. If any one doesnt belive me look at my gallery tank, up and running in 2 hours fish are in next day been good for 4 months now and all parameters perfect.

Exactly. If the filter is cycled, the tank is cycled.

Even though the bacteria are present in the filter its not completely cycled until the levels match the bio load you're putting in the tank. If the seasoned filters levels exceed those of the bio load you're putting in the tank then its safe but if they are lower as is the case in most new tanks then you will still have spikes until the levels stabolize.

I would just put the h.o.t. magnum filter on the 135 and add all of the fish into the 135 and I would dose it with Stability.

You add a double dose the first day and a regular dose for 1 week.

I'm more concerned about the fish being in a small container and maybey having a problem.

I have used Stability many times and have never lost a fish.

I used bio spira in a couple of my tanks! You just add the recommended dose and add the fish. No problems at all! no spikes.
