I am currently cycling a 17g with four dalmation mollies. Here is a chart of the progress I have been making during the past two weeks.

NO2 - <.03

  • (8/24/05) - 30% water change
  • (8/25/05)
NH3/NH4+ - 1.5 mg/l
NO2 - <.03

  • (8/26/05)
NH3/NH4+ - 1.5 mg/l
NO2 - <.03
pH – 8.0

  • (8/29/05)
NH3/NH4+ - 3.0 mg/l
NO2 - <.03
pH – 8.0

  • (9/03/05)
NH3/NH4+ - 3.0 mg/l
NO2 – 1.6 mg/l
pH – 8.0

As you can see I haven't done a water change since the 30% one 9 days ago. Now that I am starting to see a rise in nitrites do you all feel that it is time for one? Thanks for the help. This tank is going to house two very young Jewels by the way.

For the benefit or your fish, yes

But you WILL prolong your cycling period with water changes.

These mollies will just have to deal lol. I am getting impatient and they seem quite healthy right now. How much higher of a nitrite spike do you think I will see?
