I have a 58 that will become a 110 this weekend. I wanted to go bigger but the kitchen remodel had some hidden costs. Anyway, I am hopefully going to get it running sat. or sunday and I was wondering how long I should wait to cycle it. I rushed a tank in the past to devistating results. This time I have the space and time (not much though, I'm fairly impatient). I was going to add plants and snails once the tank is heated for a few days. Should I "jump start" it with water from my other tank? use some of the old gravel? I know people use feeders but I don't think I will beable to catch them with the rocks in place. Would small tetras/livebearers by better? Or should I just wait a month or so and not be a jackass? Thanks for any suggestions, the quicker the better.

when setting up a new tank i always take 50% of the water out of all my other tanks and add it to the new one. use any dirty filter media from the old tank and fill it up.

There are many different ways to cycle. IMO the fastest way is to use filter media from another filter that has been cycled already. Once you start the filter you have to add the fish to keep the biological activity going.
