Long story short I moved my Oscar from a 20g to a 55g I moved most of my gravel and media from old tank but not enough to keep the tank from cycling. Well the cycling is over it lasted about a month.. I did 50% to 80% water changes every other day during this time (I used a lot of Prime  ).. So my question is will this hurt the growth(will he still get 12" or so) and life span of my Oscar? Some people say it will but is this always the case?

50-80% every other day?
i don't think so.

I have no reason to lie.. It's not that hard when you have a python.. I didn't want to lose my Oscar..

I think the OP is asking about toxin effects during cycling, not about water changes...

As long as your water changes along with 'Prime' kept NH3/NO2 levels down then there was very likely no harm done.
GOOD JOB! :)
The biggest danger is damage done to the gills by toxic NH3(ammonia), like massive smoke inhalation to us.
NO2(nitrite) comes in a close second but is easier to deal with via salt in the water, prolonged exposure to NO2 over 20ppm is hazardous, >40ppm poses immediate risk, >60ppm toxic.

Oscars are pretty tough, you did exactly what needed to be done to get him thru it,good work:thumbsup:

nitrate nver got above 20.. My Nitrite was at 1 for a while but I changed the water a lot to try and keep it down.. ammona nerver went above .50.. well I ask to differnt source and got the same answer.. I trust these form so thanks for your help..
