My understanding of cycling a tank with fish in there is: good to have some sort of seed bacteria. It is carful that you dont kill the fish when the nitrite, or the ammonia spikes. Water changes every day 40-50% just to be careful. No ammonia detoxifiers. Plants help out. Is there anything that I missed? I dont want my AWESOME new fish to die due to new tank syndrome.

if you have friends with tanks running already you can ask for some filter media to speed up the cycle, some stores also sell used filter media or chemicals that encourage bacteria growth, might help

also, once you tank has cycled get more kuhlis and ottos, they prefer being in groups

Thanks, yeah i didn't have a lot of money and these little guys were to cool to pass up. I use biozyme and i change the water everyday. They are still acting fine so i think that they will survive. not jinxing myself;)
