Hey, Im setting up a planted tank and I'm thinking about using Spring Water to cycle my tank since my tap water is pretty gnarly. I live in the city but I have access to tubs of spring water in my house so its not a big deal. I was wondering if Spring Water is good to cycle a planted piranha tank with ?

Anything I should watch out for or be aware of in Spring Water ? Is this a good idea though in terms of chemistry, bacteria and plants ? What about affecting the water being SOFT OR HARD ? Hope this makes sense. Thanks...

what do you mean by "spring water"?

he means water that comes from the earth instead of from a faucett..

No problem doing the cycle with it.

What I mean is that I have access to 5G tubs of spring water or "bottled water"

Go POLSKA!!!
I have never heard of anyone doing this before. You could probably do it but it would end up costing quite a bit of money if you decide to use this for regular tank maintenance. The only downside I could see is that spring water usually has a whole bunch of minerals and gases dissolved into it. I think a going from spring to tap water might have negative effects on anything that is in your aquarium once you start stocking it.

I asked because alot of bottled water companies dont actually get their water from sources besides the tap. So it should work just fine, it would probably be the same as cycling with tap water imo.

cycling with this water wont be any good unless you maintain to use the water throughout i see no benefit of spring water during a cycle
