I haven't had a cylindricus in over 10 years, even though they are one of my favorite cichlids. They used to be more popular around here, but I haven't seen many lately, and I hit all the LFSs in the area on a regular basis. I finally found one at a LFS that's off the beaten path, the only cylindricus in the aquarium, and the only one at a Dayton area LFS that I know of. I don't think theey even had one at the Aquarium Adventure in Columbus I was at a few weeks ago. So even though I don't have an aquarium set up for Tangs, I bought him, around 2 1/2 inckes TL.

I put him in a 150g for now with some young CAs and a few little Hemichromis frempongis. The cylindricus is slightly longer in total length than the biggest fish in there, and seems to be holding his own in a peaceful fashion. The aquarium is pretty large relative to the size of the fish. I plan to start up a Tang tank, but I have to admit, for the time being he fits in there really well, and looks great with that mix of fish, very interesting addition. He should do ok in there for a little while until the other ruffians get a big size advantage on him (or her).

I am actively shopping for a used aquarium to house Tangs in, haven't found any deals that look just right yet. So I've bought some African Cichlid sand just to get things started, one less purchase I'll have to make. I don't want to go too crazy on big purchases, I have an estate I need to settle first, it will take a while.

Here are a couple of pics, I boughty him this past Sunday.

Forgot to add this thought; he is going to be tough as nails to catch when I get the Tang aquarium set up. I have so many cave in that 150, I'm going to have to tear it down to get him I bet. Didn't think of that.

They can be pretty tough guys... Most people do not see them since they are pretty much a lelepui with no color...

Soo... when you get ready to do a tang tank be careful if you get any lelepui since they are pretty aggressive with their own kind and they can cross breed. Lucky for my my pair of lelepui will not let him near them...

Yeah, the last one I had was pretty tough as well as I remember, so that's one of the reasons I thought he might be able to fit in the 150 for a while. I just love the color pattern on the cylindricus species. I personally like their look more than the look of lelepuis, but that's just my personal taste.

Not sure about the size of the tank I have planned for the Tangs will be yet. Still have some legal estate stuff to go through, that will take months, and some more dental work. But I think there is some light at the end of the tunnel to set up a decent Tang tank.

Love the colors on that guy.

gl on that tank...

Thanks, I'll need it. My dentist just informed me that my next visit will run me around 1,300 after the rest of my insurance is used up, ouch.:( Not as fun as using the money on new aquariums. I'll still keep my eyes peeled for a killer deal though.

Thanks Pharaoh, I think he looks cool too. None of the other fish mess with him any more. He isn't mean, but they stay out of his way. He must have taught them a few lessons when I wasn't looking.

The are tough little buggers.

In the first pic, he looks like a perch (I sound like a total n00b). Very nice colors, like it very much!
