they always look thin. they dont eat very much. they will eat live and are very hard to get off live foods because they dont get hungry enough to try non live foods. IME

they are most comfortable in a very big, very calm tank. they dont like to be moved around, and get chlostraphobic very easily.

i would stick with minnows until u grow him out.

sweet fish!

thank you for your reply.
I have my fish in a 55gal tank with low lighting and filtration,
ph 7,5 and temperature 29-30 (summer in greece).
i put in some guppies and i m waiting his attack.
I hope that all gone be ok...

Sounds like you are on the right track. If you have just got him then it could take awhile for it to eat. I have not owned this type but my redtail took about 2-3 weeks before he ate. And the only reason I know is cause i was counting feeders and none went missing for 2-3 weeks so just keep a close eye on him. And watch out for signs of fungus as these fish are easily stressed to the point of ick.

WOW I did not expect this at all. He looked pretty good in the pics. What happened. These fish are so sensitive, I hav seen ick or a cotton fungus go from no sign to 75% cover a scomb in a matter of hours. what happened to it.------------man sorry

thank you men.
the fish until it died was looked pretty good.
i can 't explain what happened.
he just didn't accept food.
as a gild-caught sensitive fish, he maybe couldn't live in captivity in a tank.
my english is very bad. sorry.
of all this story the only good thing is that i met you and now i am a member of MFK.
....just because i m one of you.
i still have my piranhas piraya, elongatus, manueli, spilo, compressus
and i hope that i will find a new hydrolycus or something like these beautiful fishes......
