gonzales, Louisiana
ight so i dont know the technical terms of what im asking but!!

i live in south east Louisiana and i have cypress trees and driftwood pretty much everywhere.
i want to put a cypress stump in my fish tank, how can i prep the wood to go in ?
any "cureing" process i need to do?
cleaning process?
just throw it in the tank?

same questions go for driftwood?
any cleaning or soaking i should do??

thx in advance for any help!!!

what if i find a cypress that has recently fallen?
what can i do to make it fish tank safe??

also this is gonna go in a 720 gallon tank, so i want fairly nice size cypress

i have access to all the cypress i need just dont really know how long to boil it to get get all the tannins out, as far as cleaning if you pressure wash it im sure you would lose all the native growth that might be on it, but one may run a risk of a unwanted bloom also. id like to see some pics of tanks that someone has used cypress like this.

I have been looking into doing my driftwood for some time. Some people say boil it in water but most wood is going to be to big. The other I have been told is if wood is old and gray like the stuff you would see washed up at ocean and not decaing then it should have leached out all of tannis. There are also mostly hard woods like Malaysian and manzanita that contain close to no tannis. I would try pressure wash and the soak maybe in a small pool and see if you can get water to run clear. You might even be able to soak in chlorine for a while and then soak in chlorine remover after??

i have malaysian driftwood in one of my tanks all i did was wash it out, i should have boiled in but i got no mean to do so, the driftwoods is like 3x4 feet LOL, it tanned my tank for months but i do not see any harm to the water or fish..even make it pretty almost like black water kinda thing..now its not tanning the water anymore :(
