Hey guys,
I hope this is the correct spot for this discussion. I am new to the forum and I don't really know my way around yet.
Anyway, I am not a breeder and the only experience I have had with fry are N. Brichardi and so far they have needed very little from me. One of my female Kirizas spit her fry today and I am totally at a loss as to what to do. There are four (but after closer examination I believe there might be one more in her mouth.) They are quite long...but very thin. Mom permanently lives in a Tanganyika community so I picked up a breeding box a little while ago because I knew the wee ones were coming. My husband is currently using our 10 gallon to grow out some female sp. 44s *shakes fist*
As of right now they are in the box with a tiny air pump and stone I gave them some crushed (when I say crushed I mean really CRUSHED) omega flakes. It looks as though they were slightly interested but just kind of nosed the particles around. I plan on picking up some brine for them tomorrow when I am in the city. I have been reading up on it today but to no avail, so I was hoping someone with some experience with this and may be able to point me in the right direction. Any information would be GREATLY appreciated....whoa I can't believe how anxious I feel about it...you would think I birthed them myself! Thanks!

They will be fine. feed that crushed up versions of what u feed mom. they will get hungry soon. What else is in that tank? The parents will not bother the fry ime. Congrats on spawning a very cool cyp!

I'm picking up a group of these for my tank as well!

I think they will be fine with crushed up foods, that is all I do for any fry I have as well and all have grown to be big and happy. I would feed small portions to keep from muddying up the water quality but multiple times a day if possible.

Thanks guys! This morning when I looked into the trap I had this sinking feeling.... but they are still alive :D They did eat this morning as well. To answer your question J. Lake. Tank mates are: Alto. Calvus "black" N. Brichardi, J. ornatus, N. cylindricus and there are some small fronts growing out in this tank as well.... actually they will be moving pretty soon. When I stocked it I didn't have spawning in mind, I knew it was possible but didn't really think about it. One thing that scares me is I have heard that the calvus will actually grab the fry through the net and then suck them out!!! Have either of you heard of this?

Anyway, thank both of you for the tips!! I hope they survive, they are pretty cute lol.

P. S sorry for the bad grammar, it's been a long day lol. Six hours in the car for Discus. I forgot to mention, Eklikewhoa: you are going to love these guys!

yeah keep them in the breeder trap for sure. Good luck
