ok pro's, i got a couple tanks that could use some fuge action, but im new to fuge's.

i have a couple bags of oolitic sand i could place into my fuge area of my sumps, or i could buy some chaeto. i also just thought of that oolitic sand blowing into my pump, a bad thing.

also what kind of cheap bulbs can i use to grow chaeto? i already have a cone/clamp light i used for my turtle setup, just need a bulb.

Get a 5k or 6500k bulb suited for the clamp lights. It will work just fine. You can get the bulbs at the hardware store for under 10 bucks.

As long as you have some baffles before the water gets to your return pump, you shouldn't have any problems with sand getting in the pump.
A sand bed in the fuge, assuming it's a deep sand bed, will help with filtration. The chaeto is useful for soaking up excess nutrients.

Theres a lot of good diy threads out there on how to do your own fuge. I read a couple and did mine no prob. The one thing to make sure of is if your pump goes out the fuge can handle the overflow without soaking the floor.
