there are many different opinions... the guy at my lfs says i dont even HAVE to do water changes that often...(I have a planted tank) the plants kinda just do its thing and make the water all nice for my discus... some have said water changes everyday... some a few times a weeek. i cant say the people that do water changes are wrong but my lfs owner says its fine and my fish have been fine ever since i got them...

Why depend on assumptions when you can test the water?

true, THE BEST WAY to make sure water is good is to check all parameters and make sure everything is under control....

are these juvenile discus? I do daily 30% on my juvie discus tanks no ill effects and they are growing like weeds.

What size tank, temp, and set-up? I would be doing very frequent water changes as I have heard they omit a hormone into the water during their rapid growth which needs to be removed. Also, you are most likely feeding 4+ times a day, so frequent vacs help keep water quality high.

Good luck with well water and discus. I gave up discus when I moved into my current house with well water. Used to change 10 gallons 2x a week in a 75. (too lazy to figure out percentages:D)
