So i picked up a 6" Motoro a couple days ago. Things have been going well. Until this morning when I noticed the tip of tail looked like it had some fluffy white stuff on it.

My water conditions are good, but it may be possible that he was nipped by my clown knife or another tank mate.

I guess my main concern is the severity of the injuring, will it get better? and what I can do to help the healing process.

here is a pic to help identify the issue

It's ok to do nothing right now as most fungal infections tend to cure themselves. If you want, you can drop methylene blue directly onto the wound and then return it back into the tank.

Wherever the tail is white will most likely fall off. I would keep an eye on whoever did that to make sure it doesn't get worse

Most likely, it is fairly common for rays to have damaged tails in captivity

I have a 5" ray which was nipped on its tail, i kept an eye on it for 3 days and noticed that it was getting worse.
It looked exactly the same as your picture. I asked a couple of friends who also keep rays what i should do, and there advise was not to add any meds because of my other rays, but to section him off so he is on his own, as they said that once it had got fleshy my other fish would not leave it alone. I am so glad i took there advise, its been just over one week and his tail is all healed over and you can see the shape of the flag part is also coming back.
Hope this info is usefull, and if you do the same it works for you.
I just kept a close eye on him and made sure he was eating plenty and acting normall.

The exact same thing happened to my hystrix. The tip of the tail did come off completely and she stopped eating. Unfortunately, she didn't start eating again and she passed away last weekend.

I do think it's a good sign that yours is eating. Keep the water super clean, add salt and keep the temp high.

Do not RAISE temp though, just keep stable.

thanks everyone. Ive been keeping the tank stable. he has become a lot more active and still eating readily. been keeping an eye on his parameters and he is healing up.
although the healing process has been slow, he is getting noticeably better. I really didn't do anything special to care for the issue, except for keeping good water quality.
