I used to have a small 10 gallon tank in the bathroom...housing a cpl snails, some danios and tetras
my cat(mainecoon) would hunker himself down in the bathroom sink and stare @ the tank for hours... he would smack the tank but it was nothign big i mean the fish prolly didn't like it very much but @ least it kept him away from the other bigger tanks... NE way on to the point....i got a bad case of ick from a neon and i tried to save them but alas all but one died from the treatment and then he too shrtly died....so i decided that i would take the tank apart and set it up again later...long story shrt it was busted in storage...
NOW kitty thinks that he should be able to beat up the big tanks and it is driving the fish and myself nutz....
so what are your opinions on it...
get another tank for the cat?

block the front of the tanks so the cat can't see?
love the kitty to death but he is unruly and will not listen to reason or water..he actually loves to get wet...

Move stuff around so that he cannot sit close to the tank.

Set up an electric collar fence at the doorway of the fish room:WHOA: that will keep the cat away from your fish:ROFL:

yeha i have tried setting stuff up so that he can't get any where near the tank..but he has hurt himself triing to get @ the tanks...and he's a biggie 25 pounder so he jst launches himself @ the tanks...but yeha it getting to the point that i am thinking i will get a tank and let him harass that as he didn't seem as crazy and vicious towards the small tank...

such quick responses that's why i love this site...thanx guys and gals

get a bottle that squirts water. Wait for the cat when he start hitting the tank, and squirt his ass. Then, everytime he smacks around your tank, squirt him again. He will learn to leave your tank alone. My cat loves to play with water; but she doesn't like to be squirted either.

yep this method is a guarantee ;)

Get acouple of aspirin bottles (empty) put in a few pennies so it rattles and wing it at the cat when he gets close to the tank. It may sound mean to overboard cat lovers but it's better than a dead cat if a tank breaks.

or

Get him a playmate...How about a mirror?

Sell the cat and get a dog.
