So I have a cheaper heater for my 55 gal piranha tank, the kind you turn the dial at the top to set the temp but has no actual temp numbers to go off of. My tank is kept at a even 80 last week it dropped to 70 the day after I unplugged It for water change. So today I come home to my temp at 89 and yesterday was another W/C day I never move the dial on WC days either. Tomorrow I need to just get a new heater any suggestions on what to get.

Eheim Jager heaters are in all my tanks. If your fish are aggressive you may want to consider a titanium rather than glass heater.

I have one of those cheap, non submersible, non thermostatic jobs on one of my grow out tanks and I keep a plastic pitcher for water changes.I fill the pitcher with tank water and then quickly remove the heater from the tank and place it into the pitcher. That way there is no need to unplug the cheapo heater or go through having to readjust it.....I intend to get a few new heaters myself but I just thought I'd offer that to in case you have to hold off getting a replacement.
