Hi I am considering keeping celestial pearl danio with angelfish. The danios are supposedly fin-nippers but some have reported successfully keeping them both together. I want your opinions on this. Good idea? Bad idea? What exactly is so bad about fin-nipping?

Repeated fin nipping will eventually lead to fin rot and then further bacterial infection. If the popular consensus is not to put known fin nippers in with "x-fish", I would be inclined to go with popular opinion, ESPECIALLY with angelfish. What a temptation for a fin nipper. BTW, there are a lot of known fin nipping fish and Cyprinids, Characins and Cichlids are all known to have many fin nipping variaties, but Danios are especially fast swimmers so they would make easy work of those slow Angels.

That's the strange thing. This species of danio does NOT shoal and Wikipedia says their slow moving fish.

Yeah it's a type of Danio. I had 12 regular Danios with a breeding pair of Angelfish & they were a bit nippy, though not enough to cause concern. I eventually rehoused them since my Angelfish were picking them off one by one.

You know, now that I think about it, that is a fish I would risk with some Angels. Beautiful fish. Unless you are going to keep Altums.
BTW, Angels are tougher than people give them credit. They are cichlids after all.

Ha, they really are. My Angelfish pair killed a variety of fish including nice sized (4-5 in) Gouramis. They were mean come spawning time and my female eventually killed off the male. She bit his eye which caused an infection.
