Hey Guys,
This will be my first monster tank. I was inspired by these monster fish ever since the episode of River Monsters when Jeremy Wade sought out to find the goliath african tiger fish a couple years back. I recently actually decided to go out and get these fish and setup my 130 gallon. With the help of Chixulub I'm off to a good start.
Tank: 130 Gallon Long ( 72L x 18W x 24H inches )
Filtration: x2 60 Tetra Whisper HOB, 40 Gallon Sump, (Will be adding an fx5 when i can get my hands on one)
Powerheads: x4 Koralia Evo 1050 gph
Stocklist:
I currently just added 1 Hydrocynus Vittatus (Red Tail African Tiger Fish) 3 Days ago and he is about 4.5 Inches. I got this guy from Scott at Ocean State Aquatics in Rhode Island. They have great customer service over there.
2 Silver Arowana that i got for 30 each at a lfs. Both are currently at 3.5 inches and are eating market shrimps.
5 Red Tail Tinfoil Barbs. Theses guys are essential theyre helping me break my Vatf off live food as well as preventing my future atf from fighting with each other. Chixulub just posted a thread that contains more information on how to break your african tiger fishes off lives. After two days of introducing the tiger barbs, and 3 days of starving my vatf, he finally started trying to steal the pellets from the barbs.
My future stocklist will contain at least one of every sp of african tiger fish. Not sure about the brevis but I definitely want the goliath. So if you guys have or know anyone that has a Fatf, Gatf, or Batf let me know. I may add one or two parayas but they are not my priority. Yes I am aware of my tank being to small. This is my grow out tank. I have a 500 gallon that I am currently setting up for these guys when they grow out.
At the OCA
Arowanas
Acclimation
I had no idea how strong these guys were even when they were young. This was before I upgraded to the koralia powerheads. These guys are so fast and almost impossible to take pictures off
