Can DAP 08642 Black Silicone Sealant be used for aquariums? It says 100% silicone on the tube, and I don't see a mention of any Mold/Mildew protection on it.

Otherwise, what's another aquarium safe Black Silicone that's easy to find in hardware stores? The only other one I see in black is GE Silicone II which I know isn't good.

Have you had a bad experience with GEII ?

Or are you are you just going off of what you have read?

Just wondering.

Just going by what I have read. Most people say not to use it, although I have read that others have used it with no problems. I would rather be safe then sorry.

your LFS should carry the Aqueon (Allglass) black silicone if you can't find any other.

its the one they use for their bowfront tanks. looks great.

Yeah, there's also a Perfecto Black silicone as well. But none of the local stores have either of them in stock, just the clear, and only the tiny tubes. I was hoping to get this done today if possible, and not have to wait for Wednesday for one of the local stores to get it in. Also, the Perfecto/AGA stuff retails for like 15-20 bucks, whereas the hardware store stuff is like 6 bucks.

if you end up going the LFS route, try to use the AGA brand rather than the Perfecto brand. if you compare the black seals of perfecto tanks to the black sealed AGA tanks, the AGA is a nicer looking silicone. its darker.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I am about to go out to a couple more hardware stores though and take a look for GE312A (Silicone I Black). Hopefully I can find it today so I can get moving with this project (29 gallon Paludarium). I only have the weekends to work on it and so far I keep getting held up by little things each weekend.

A member of cuadata.org contacted GE about the GE II silicon. GE stated that GE I silicon contains the same ingredients as GE II to include the mold and mildew resistance. GE re-introduced GE I as GE II for marketing only so they could make the old formula new. GE I and GE II are the same thing.....

Never mind I can't find the post that supports what I posted so disreguard for now.

There's still alot of info going around saying not to use GE II. While the only difference between the two may be the container, if I can find the Silicone I in black i would much rather be on the safe side and use that. But thank you for the info.

Okay, well one of the smaller hardware stores has the DAP 08642 100% Black Silicone. I see no mention of a Mildew/Mold control agent. Seems like it should be okay to use. I picked up two tubes of it. Would really like to hear from anyone if they used this same one before though.
