Hmmm.....well, last night I decided I was tired of not bein able to see my fishies....SOOO I did some rearranging and moved my fish around. Moved all my pikes and my Hoplarchus psittacus to my 75gal. Put in a buncha rocks and driftwood, and added more lightin...and BLAMMO!! Instant success! Its a very active tank, and so far things are going great. No aggression at all really. Point is, since I can now SEE my fish, I took A LOT OF PICTURES of them....:D. ENJOY!! I think I shall have three seperate threads.....one for each species...woot. Aigh, umm, lets see, we shall start with my Hoplarchus psittacus, the TRUE Parrot cichlid. I currently have three of these beautiful giants, and ABSOLUTELY love them. I was lucky enough to get the Brazilian strain, which IMO get much better lookin than the Venezuelan strain. As you can see by the pictures...:D.....they are startin to really color up....and startin to get their red breasts, which I think only the Brazilians get! Oh, and their eyes are now red all the time...looks really kewl. Anywho...enough talkin!! Woot!....HOPLARCHUS PSITTACUS!!

Peanut, what is the pH of the water. I was reading up on them and it says they prefer a soft water of 6 or so. I really want to try some of the cichlids from softer water but everything around here is around 8.

I've had mine in pH in the 8's...no effects. They are pretty hardy. I try to use RO water when possible though, since DO do better in lower pHs and softer water...;). I've kept most of my SA cichlids in 8.0pH and Hard water for several years till i got my RO unit with not problems...;)

nice fish
