Recently picked up this 3" JD. Doesn't show the typical female JD "bearding", but also doesn't show the typical spangling seen in males. He/she is really showing the darker colors. Any thoughts on gender?
Looks male. ) Usually the beard would be the one single indicator that is correct in 97.5% of all JDs, regardless of the rest of its attributes, I find.
I agree that body shape looks female as does the lack of overall spangling. Is there any way to get a lighter picture of the fish? I know this fish is dark, but the picture also looks dark to me. I've also noticed with my own females that they tend to be a lot darker than the males during breeding time. How big is this fish? I really like this little one
