Do you do water changes?
Yes

I woke up and saw one of my female rainbowfish has a swim bladder issue. In watching the tank now and I don't think anyone else is affected.

I'm not sure what this dark line make is? Any guesses? I'm thinking maybe it got it maybe from swimming into a pvc pipe while bc her swim bladder is messed up?

I suppose swim bladder could have been caused by this or it happened after swim bladder issue.

Maybe I fed too much. I was trying to get rid of this NLS grow so maybe I fed too much.

Ny QT tanks still have rainbowfish with white marks in one and the dented head praecox in the other. My plan is to treat epson salt in this 5g bucket and move a sponge filter here. (I guess this is better for her anyway as I can keep water level low).

I will also fast display tank for two days as a precaution. I had one male have this issue in Feb from this tank. That one end up not making it. I had a female praecox have an issue in QT tank a few months ago and she miraculously recovered.PXL_20201107_173641208.MP.jpg

I’d also suggest kanamycin or maracyn2 if ur able to get it.

Yeah I still have some kanamycin. The treatment if I remember it is to fast for a few days with epson salt in water and then try kanamycin if there is no improvement, correct?

I thought the fish would be dead today. Saturday she was swimming mostly upright. Since Sunday she's been upside down. I had done a water change. Don't know if that made it worse or if that would have progressed that way anyway.

In other threads, I've seen it recommended to lower water so fish will stay upright. No matter how low I make the water, she stays upside down. If I flip her right side up, she twists body and ends up upside down.

The one rainbow I had that recovered only had a minor problem as she was swimming upright but somewhat diagonal.

Anyway, not much else I can do. I feel bad if I caused it but I'm not sure. I feed the main tank maybe a tablespoon of pellets into the tank and the only difference Thursday and Friday was that it was a little over but maybe more volume bc it was the 0.5 mm NLS grow that also has more.protein than other foods. Usually I rotate the 1mm NLS thera a and 2 MM NLS probiotic in.

Maybe it wasn't a large enough amount to cause a problem. I suppose she could have gotten injured. Rainbows have chased each other into bumping hard into stuff before (Ive had two that have dented their hump area severely in two different tanks). Also I've seen the pleco almost smash a rainbow with his tail by accident (he barely missed a rainbow male the one time I saw it happen).

I'm just typing out thoughts bc I wonder how I lose fish when I think I'm doing things mostly right.

Just an update in case this thread comes up in a search for someone trying to cure a swim bladder problem. I've stated before that it's frustrating when I find threads and don't see any updates or results.

This fish was dead when I got up today. I figured she wasn't gonna make it when the fasting and antibiotics didn't work last qeek. She couldn't even maunuver herself to eat. I probably should have euthanized her.

The one fish I had with swim bladder that recovered had only a slight imbalance and was swimming diagonally. This was was completely upside down even with really low water level. The other rainbowfish earlier in the year was laying on the bottom after a few days.

I think it had to be an injury. Maybe trying to jump out of the tank, running into a pvc pipe (she did have that dark line mark/bruise) two weeks ago when I first noticed her problem. The pleco could have accidentally hit her with his tail: I've seen a few near misses before when pleco has been swimming around to a higher area on the glass.

I am still doing one or two day fasts A week just in case it was overfeeding that cause the problems.
