Dark Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats a good idea. i know there are some blind waterfall angelfish, but i think they are only found in one waterfall somewhere in S. America. it would be hard, and probably illegal to have them, and impossible to keep. texas has a blind salamander, but i think they would get to big, and prob eat your fish

Sounds cool, be sure to show us when its finished.
guppy those fish are awsome.... the good thing with cave fish it doesnt matter if they are in a darkened aquarium or a normal one cause they cant see lol... buut if you manage to breed them in normal aquaria you might mutate the fry their eyes might not get grown over lol.

i know it doesnt matter gwether these is light or not but i like to keep my fish in as biotopic as a situtaion as i can, i think it preserves the wild behavior.

A few of the cave fish types gain melanin if exposed to light for prolonged periods.

foun a species of eyeless pleco, Anscistrus Formoso. but i have kind of resigned to myself that this tank is more fantasy than actually acheiveable, ill never be able to go collect the rare species myself, and the odds of these fish showing up in ne lfs or newhere for that mattter are about as rare as winning the lotto.........
it was still a good idea and i may still do it for cave tets
thnx neways guys.....

something being rare a nothing to do with it, believe me I know. But thats what the internet is for :D

I've seen common NA natives back in caves while diving, but not far beyond the cavern zone (cave == no natural lite, cavern == area where there is sunlite visible, no caverns at night). Have seen a few catfish in cave zones, but usually headed from one cavern area to another with the current.

For your decorating, remember that caves aren't black, at least down here in Florida. Walls are limestone, bottoms are limestone and sand usually....

A dark tank would be pretty sweet. You shouldn't give up so easy man.Check out as many forums and sites as you can.It may take awhile and some $$ but you w/ the internet you're bound to find lots of cool stuff to get your tank together.
