I have (2) 2-3 inch monos. One slightly larger than the other. I just started introducing little pieces of tilapia and now one of them turned a much darker shade. I know animals do that when they are agitated or of similar feeling. Do they show their emotions through their colors? or is it a sign of something more serious?

nothing to worry about sometimes they change thier colors during feed/excitement..post pics of the coloration

I thought cichla turning dark was a sign of bad water. ?????

Ok so, im assuming he/she is mad at me. I dont know if its because i tried to introduce the tilapia pieces and it thinks im being cheap or what. I know they are young and the tilapia blah blah, but im just introducing to so they eat what I give em. I balance it out with some live tuffies now and again, they came off mysis shrimp and went onto the plankton / live . hence why i did the tilapia, get em used to it so when i go primarily to fillets and such they will be used to it. Feeders, disease, yea i know. I believe a few here and there if your fish has a strong immune system and you have a well kept tank. . . you will survive. Anyway. These two guys are at my tanning salon and when i came in this morning ( after posting last night ) he was same color as his buddy, which is lighter tone. Soon as i turn the light on and the other comes to see me, the other one takes off and turns all dark. I feel like i cheated on my girlfriend or something but i dont know what i did ?! = ( What is 82-84 in the morning, warms up to 86, 87 during the day. Ammonia fine, nitrate fine, ph 6.6 , 20% change few days ago, recently added carbon to filter, added a little aquarium salt with the water change ( very little ) , and some algae preventative ( very little ) the tank gets some sun for an hour or two as it goes down. Phew, that's all the details. BASS.jpgBASS1.jpg These two pics were taken seconds apart! and this pic is when I got them about a month ago.Pbass.jpg

i only fed my pbass feeders the first few weeks when they were little just for training. Try Diesel Mac`s method of converting if you want to be cheap like me :D

pbass, That why i said i was " introducing " . Obviously they are always down to eat, so i gave em a few of the "plankton" and when they came up for more i tossed in a diced cube of the tilapia, he ate it, took it down and seemed cool with it, but apon the next grab he spit it out and was all set with it. I like to dump a few feeders in there just to let em have some fun, and admire their quickness and insatiable appetite. Just figured if I could expose em to it now, that way they will be more receptive to it when they gotta start eating it primarily, i only mentioned it as either a reason for disliking me now, or maybe the tilapia wasnt sitting well with him. I am not too concerned about their diet as apposed to the drastic change in personality and color.
