Darter Identification

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1) Don't take fish home that you cannot identify - you run the risk of collecting a protected species.
2) Etheostoma blennioides, greenside darter.
3) I haven't looked at TN's 2013 regulations, but as of 2012, it was illegal to collect non-gamefish. This could have changed, but just be aware of local laws.

Hey, awesome find! It looks, to me, like a Greenside Darter. Maybe a female. The scientific name is Etheostoma blennioides.e Order: PERCIFORMES Family: PERCIDAE

Hope this helps! Do you still have it? If so, an update would be great! Best of Luck.

Yeah it's a Greenside. I've got a great pair myself I plan on breeding in the Spring. Just an FYI they're terrible beginner darters because they're not the hardiest and need tons (and I mean TONS) of snails to eat to stay healthy.
