Just got a new Indo Dat hopefully third time lucky (first two died).
Its about 10cm and a ferocious eater unfortunately its a ferocious fish it beats the crap out of eveything in the tank with it.
Anyone else got an agrressive Dat? Can they be tamed? Or will they grow out of this behaviour?

Bite sized tetras?:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:
I'm not that silly.
No he was in with a green aro which was bigger than him and pretty aggressive the Dat was first to attack and was relentless it was like those cartoons with a whirlwind of punches were thrown and I had to move the Aro for iys protection. Its now in with 2 leopard bush fish 2 convicts cihlids 3 Uaru and 1flagtail prochilodus.
The guy I bought it off had it in a small planted tank with tetras and small prochillodus.

geez, i think it was your tank size, you should've had a bigger tank for those little monsters..Indo dats can quite sometimes being territorial, do you have some hiding place? or do you overpupolate the tank ? 2 feet cube can contain only three 10 cm Indo dats.. i Have 1 4" Siamese, 1 4" Indo, 1 4" American dats + 1 2.5" frontosa in a 3 ft X 1 ft X 1½ ft tank, no agression detected :) :)

your telling me its territorial!
But as soon as I put this fish in it was instant trouble it was only a matter of seconds before the fights broke out. There are plenty of hiding places in the tank but I reckon this one has just got a mean streak.
I thought a 2ft cube would be plenty for such a small fish hes just under 4 inches.

hmmmm, odd behaviour, i never had that problem before, individual behaviour maybe... and trust me mate, 2ft cube is too small....

my widbar hates my 2 indos with a passion,but I admit I need more dats I only have a 7" ST, a 5" IT and a 2" IT.

good luck with your guy.;)
