My fist Dat in 20 years is dying:cry:

I have had him about a year, and he has grown from 2-3" to about 7". I don't see any ich on him, and usually the clown loaches would show it first. The only thing new is a black ghost knife I got about 6 weeks ago. Everything has looked OK until 2 days ago, when the Dat started feeding strangely: swimming lethargically, and missing the pellets when feeding. Yesterday he started turning on his side and upside down. He does have a couple of very small spots that might look like an infection???? He has a small amount of green poo coming out of him (i'm not sure the usual color - never seen his poo b4). Otherwise he looks pretty good. I took this horrible photo, but I can't seem to get a better one with where he is.

I have done WC once per day and added salt, not sure what I can to do help him - he's the only reason I got my new 135G tank. Ill keep doing WC and hope unless someone has a better idea.

Ammonia is .025 (usually 0, not sure why the change)
Nitrate is 10
Temp is 80

Any help is greatly appreciated.

no a 40 percent waterchange twice a day is not okay. if you are doing wc's that often, that may be why you have ammonia- you could have triggered a mini cyle.. ammonia in any small amount is deadly to a fish, they just cant handle ammonia-or i should say their vascular gills cant

can you quarantine him in a small tank? i would do that. if you can post pics of his sores do that too.. he may have a bacterial infection. i wouldnt worry about feeding him right now-he wont eat. where are his sores located on his body? his head?

hes a big dat-i hope he makes it. you really need to get him out of the tank with ammonia in it. if you cant, then yes-do a 40 percent waterchange today, but do small ones daily after that.. you want to remove that ammonia, but you dont want to remove so much water that it harms your fish.

i dont keep dats-someone else will have to tell you if salt is okay to use with them.

water change once every 2 days no more than 30%

you could be killing the tiger with the amount of water changes you are doing

Thanks for the replies. I normally do a 30% WC 1x per week.

I did a 40% yesterday. I'll do 20% every two days. Does that sound right? Unfortunately, I do not have another tank. I may pay the price for putting that off....

a ten gallon glass tank is really cheap to buy-esp. used. if i were you, i would get a small used tank to keep for situations like this.. i know dats are expensive, and well worth the ten bucks for a ten gallon used tank..

I'm sorry to say this but that thinbar will die in the next couple of days. Thinbars datnoids of ntt have a sudden death syndrome. They can and will die for no absolute reason known to datnoid keepers. I myself had 3 thinbars die on me mysteriously. I did the whole gamut of what is generally accepted should be done for a fish to survive to no avail.
