my 14" dat developed pop eye about a month ago. One of his eyes is popped and cloudy. All the other fish in the tank are normal and healthy. The water parameters are good: 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and 14-40ppm of nitrate. Tank is 375g with a huge Niger cat, a rose queen cichlid, 12" Flagtail, 3 odoe pikes, and 2 musk turtles.
He has also shown signs of dat disease: white little growths on his face.
I started treatment by adding salt, bumping temp, and doing large water changes. It didn't help.
Then, I moved him to a 60g quarantine tank with just a heater, bubbler, and power head. Tank is covered and kept dark. I do a 50% water change every other day.
First I did a 5 day treatment of erythromycin. No improvement. Then I did a 10 day treatment of bifuran. No improvement. I also tried paracure, which didn't do anything. Lastly, I used fish mox for 14 days and it seemed to reduce the popeye a little bit and cleared up the cloudiness, but not back to normal 100%.
It's been well over a month so I put him back in the main tank. Within a few hours, his eye popped out as big as before.
Has anyone experienced something like this and have any advice? I've put a lot of work into treating him but still can't figure out the solution.
