Alright, so I am new to dats, and just looking into them, because I fell in love and would like to own some, but im trying to do some research first instead of the usual jump in head first and figure out the rest later

First question would be what water params should they be kept in/how picky are they about those params?
Second, what causes them to be unstable? And how do you get them to stabilize again?

I'm looking at getting some IT Dats, so any info would be very much appreciated!

as far as i know, dats get stable/unstable whenever they want and how they feel about their environment. if dats get unstable, theres really nothing you can do but just wait. most of the time, when they go into a new home some will maintain stability. like for mine, when i got then they were all unstable but once they got into my tank they were happy and very active. so what im saying is its really 50/50. as far as the water param im not quite sure. hope that helps.

With IT's, there is really no telling.
They're very fickle about being stable.
It's all up to the dat really.

Alright so stability is what i got the feeling it was...
Now, how bout parameters?

And what are the most common tankmates?

Water parameters don't seem to matter much as long as they aren't extreme. As for tankmates...they can get along with any fish that doesn't fit in their mouths. They grow very slow, so choosing tankmates can be tricky. Clown Loaches and Black Ghost Knives grow pretty slow and may be able to grow up with them.

Awesome thanks!

this is what i have in the tank. 3 thinbar, 1 Indo dat, 2 bala shark, 1 bichir, 3 african leaf fish, 1 snowball pleco, and 1 ugly poop factory( common pleco). from there you can take out the bala, add clown loaches, and arowana. alot of people have that kind of setup with the dats, or all datnoids.

Cool, sounds like they can mix with most my fish once they are big enough.

Now when were talking slow growth rate... how slow is slow? Like, how much growth could I expect in 6months from a 3 or 4 inch IT?
